A self taught chef, Shay Widmer spent her summers fishing with her grandfather and eating crawfish in Lafayette, Louisiana. When she wasn’t in the bayou of Louisiana, she was spending her summers in North Dakota working in her grandmother’s restaurant “The Nodak Café” learning how to bake caramel rolls, working by her side, and finding herself attached to the smells and excitement of kitchen life.
Shay enrolled in the culinary program of Bartlett High school in Memphis, Tennessee. At age 17, Shay came to work for Carrier at DŌ sushi. Her parents would drop her off at the restaurant after high school, and pick her up at the end of her shift during the week. Carrier watched as Shay’s passion for culinary knowledge grew, and soon started training her on all stations at all of Carrier’s restaurants. Four years later, Carrier offered her the job of Chef de Cuisine at The Beauty Shop. Her commitment, passion and professional demeanor is unsurpassed as she grows in developing her own unique Southern-Caribbean palette.
At such a young age, the future looks very bright and promising for this aspiring chef.
